MG/YA Book Project Underway
Some of you may know that I’m an education consultant with my state’s department of education. I work with schools to help increase student academic performance. These schools are also considered low income. Being a former English Language Arts teacher, my passion to help get books in the hands of young readers is very strong. In addition to donating my ARCs and print review copies sent to me, I’m trying to collect middle grade and young adult books to donate to 3 schools I work with. One middle school is in need of creating classroom libraries and the other’s main libraries are in great need of updating their books which are sparse. As many of you know, schools are dealing with budget cuts, and sadly libraries are an area that don’t have much to begin with sometimes.
If you are an author, publisher, marketing associate, reviewer, or just someone that has MG/YA books and would like to donate print and/or epub copies to these three schools please email me at julie (at) ataleofmanyreviews (dot) com. I will gladly give you more details. I’m looking to deliver books in March/April.
One of the schools can also accept epub editions of books since they have 5 Nooks for students to check out from the main library!
These came from a grant but they need books to fill them.
I am also in the process of planning how to connect the students, authors, and the books. In discussions with the teachers, we have thought about inviting interested authors to do skype interviews with students, have students that read one of the books also write a review and be a guest reviewer on my blog, and fostering students to become book blog reviewers on their own! I’m also planning on book talks for the books I have read.
A little about the schools:
I’ll be dividing the books and delivering them to the schools in March and April. One is a very rural middle school and another their receiving high school. They share a main library so thankfully we will be able to serve a 7-12 grade library at one time. We have another very rural middle school that hasn’t updated their books in years. They had their first Scholastic book fair this year! That was a given for me growing up but not for these kids. The last school is an urban middle school and we are trying to create classroom libraries. It’s not as easy to send students to check out library books here for various reasons, so class libraries are a great option. This school is also the one that has 5 Nooks students can check out, so they can accept epub copies too. I love that!
Thank you for your support and help spread the word if you are so inclined.
If you would like to tweet, facebook, or post about the donation project please do!

Thank you Cherie!!
Awesome project and I would love to be a part of it! It actually dovetails nicely with a project of my own in conjunction with a feature on my blog called Your Voice Matters. I’ll be emailing you shortly!
Hi Julie! What a wonderful idea. I’d be happy to donate a copy of Sign Language (Viking, 2011), and please keep me in mind for Skype classroom visits. Let me know where to send the book. Thank you!

Hey Julie – this sounds great! Definitely count me in! Just let me know the postal address and I’ll send a couple hard copies of various great YA books. I’m not confident with my ePub’s right now.
Thank you so much! I’ve sent you an email.
This is so cool. I’ve just pulled some books from my shelves and when the kids get home I’ll verify what they’re willing to part with and will then e-mail you w/ what I’ve got.
Thank you!!
Julie I have some books that I can donate from my shelves. I have books that I have multiple copies of. Email me and let me know where to send them.

What an awesome cause! I have no idea how I missed this. I just donated a ton of books to my local schools, but I’ll see what I can try and collect to send to you. This is seriously amazing!!

Hey! What a fantastic cause! I’d love to donate, but my book, ONE FOR THE MURPHYS (Upper MG from Penguin) isn’t out until May 10th. Can you still use books then? If so, e-mail me with your address and I’ll make a note.
Good luck! I LOVE things like this!
I’ve sent you an email.
Thank you!
I’m not a YA author. I write Adult Contemporary, but my friend, Jennifer M. Barry is a YA author. I just sent her your link and she may want to help!
As a mother of a young daughter who is a ferocious reader, I think this is great! Thanks for doing this!
Thank you!
